Three Bears at The Fountain B&B ( Stowe )
Three Bears at The Fountain Bed and Breakfast Inn is a Stowe Tradition. In 1826, when Noah Churchill built this beautiful colonial farmhouse and adjacent carriage house on 365 acres, little could he have known that he was creating a Stowe tradition. The Fountain, from its early beginnings as a potashery to the town's first guest house, is one of Stowe's oldest homes. The actual "Fountain", for which the house is named, is fed by a mountain spring. A local landmark, in winter, it becomes a beautiful towering ice sculpture that can be seen from the road.
The house has several architecturally significant features, including corner fireplaces and a large flagstone paved basement floor. The foundation walls are still admired by masons who consider the immense labor necessary for such an undertaking. With a wraparound porch, perennial gardens and panoramic views of Mount Mansfield, the setting invites relaxation and renewal. Guest rooms offer private baths, fireplaces and king or queen size beds. A cozy dining room, fireplaced living room with a player baby grand and discreet sitting room complete the inn experience "where everything is just right."
Summer breakfast is served on our deck overlooking Mt. Mansfield and in winter, the fireplaced breakfast room. We use Vermont products when possible and fresh vegetables and herbs from our own gardens. Daily changing menus include: Green Mountain Coffees, fresh squeezed juice, selection of fresh fruit, coffee cakes, muffins or sweetbreads, homemade breads and daily changing entree. Some of our entrées might be: pasta-vegetable fritattas, raised pumpkin waffles, omelets, yogurt-oat-apple pancakes, Creole crepes or crispy French toast. We can always accommodate special dietary needs.
